Groundbreaking held for new Forsyth County fire station

By AccessWDUN Staff

The west-central portion of Forsyth County will be home to a new county fire station.

Ground was broken on Tuesday for the department’s newest facility, which will be referred to as Forsyth County Fire Station 11. It will be located on Pittman Road.

“Fire Station 11 will proudly serve the residents of west Forsyth County and provide enhanced coverage for our customers in this area,” said Forsyth County Fire Chief Barry Head. “We are very thankful of the voters’ continued passage of the Forsyth County SPLOST program (which will help fund construction) and eternally grateful to the Board of Commissioners for their unwavering support of the fire department.”

District 3 Commissioner Todd Levent, in whose district the new facility will be located, expressed his appreciation to everyone involved in the project.

“As our community continues to grow, it is important that we keep the residents safe while responsibly planning for the future,” said Levent. “This strategically placed station will help us achieve both goals.”

The new facility will be a 12,000 square foot, four-stall station, designed to allow for future growth.  It is expected to open in the summer of 2020.

In Sept. 2018, the Forsyth County Fire Department was awarded a grant from the Department of Homeland Security/FEMA to support the staff cost at the new station.  Twelve firefighters will be stationed there.
