A man was shot and wounded by an officer with the McCaysville Police Department just after 12 a.m. Friday, according to a report from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The GBI's Natalie Ammons said local officer were called to an apartment on Darry Street because an armed man had entered a woman's residence.
"Upon arrival, officers learned that James Larry Parris, Jr., age 50, forcibly entered the residence of his ex-wife, Carrie Parris," Ammons said. "James Parris held Carrie Parris, her friend Larry Timothy Long, and a 14-year-old juvenile hostage."
Ammons said James Parris fired a shot inside the apartment during the incident.
"McCaysville police officers made contact with James Parris and attempted to negotiate his surrender," Ammons said. "During the stand-off, James Parris pointed a shotgun at the officers and was subsequently shot."
Ammons said the suspect was taken to Kennestone Hospital; he was last reported in stable condition. where he remains in stable condition.
Ammons said no officers were injured.
The incident is the 54th officer-involved shooting in Georgia in 2019.
