New visitor check-in procedures are being implemented at Gainesville City Schools as part of the start of the new school year.
One of them becomes effective this week aftrer faculty and students return from the long Labor Day Weekend.
It will require that guests who visit schools during the school day present a picture ID to school officials. Testing of the system has been underway for several days, according to Jill Hobson, Chief Technology Officer for the Gainesville City School System.
Other security upgrades in the city school system this year include security vestibules at Gainesville High School, Centennial Arts Academy, and the School Board Office, allowing visitors to enter the facilities only through the vestibules, and card reader checkpoints at all GCSS schools and facilities. Employees gain access to their facilities through devices located at main entrances.
