Kemp orders mandatory evacuation of six coastal Georgia counties

By AccessWDUN Staff

Ahead of Hurricane Dorian, Governor Brian Kemp issued an executive order calling for the mandatory evacuation of six counties east of I-95.

Kemp issued the order Sunday night, telling residents of Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Glynn, Liberty, and McIntosh counties to make their way inland.

The mandatory evacuation is effective as of noon Monday, Sept. 2. The order also directs the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA) and Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to establish westerly contraflow on Interstate 16 starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3.

Kemp and other state emergency officials plan press conferences on Monday to update Georgians on the approach of Hurricane Dorian.
