*Emily Carella will join the staff of Young Harris College Sept. 15 as director of admissions. Carella comes to YHC from Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, North Carolina, where she served as director of undergraduate admissions for seven years.

*Best Friends Animal Society has awarded Gwinnett County Animal Welfare and Enforcement Division a $50,000 grant to help keep animals out of the shelter and in loving homes.
*This year's Gainesville Alzheimer's Walk will be held Oct. 5 on the downtown square. In addition to the three-mile walk, participants will be able to enjoy a DJ along with activities for children including face painting and balloon art. Participants can join a team or register to walk as an individual at alz.org/walk.
*Piedmont College freshmen, faculty, and staff gathered this week for a Convocation service to mark the start of the college’s 122nd year and celebrate the institution’s largest-ever first-year class. Total enrollment at Piedmont’s Demorest and Athens campuses is 2,584, compared to 2,498 last year and 2,368 in 2017.
