Drought conditions across north Georgia are expected to worsen this week and the late-summer/early-fall heatwave is expected to continue.
"Rain chances will be slim to none for the next 7 days," reads a posting on the National Weather Service Facebook page, "thanks to high pressure remaining firmly in place across the Southeast. Dry conditions coupled with increasing heat will likely lead to expanding drought conditions across the state (this) week."
As AccessWDUN reported last week, drought conditions now cover 65 percent of the state, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. Conditions in many places in north Georgia, including the Gainesville area, are now considered "moderate."
