The White County Election Superintendent requested and was granted funding to purchase new election equipment at Monday night's meeting.
White County Commissioners approved up to $55,000 for the items, which include 12 steel cages, one for each precinct, that will meet the security requirements. The county will need 60 voting booths and other supplies. The money would come from SPLOST.
Superintendent Garrison Baker also told commissioner the county is still awaiting the arrival of the new voting machines from the state as well as the state to pick up the old machines. He said there are other items that will be needed to help make the upcoming voting process secure and complete.
According to Baker, there will be six elections that will be held from now until January 6th, 2021.
Also at Monday's meeting, the board went ahead with approving a resolution that set qualifying fees for county offices to be filled in this year's primary and general election. Thirteen offices are available including White County Sheriff and Probate Judge, both of those offices have already piqued the interest of several candidates for each office.
