UPDATED STORY 2:56 P.M.: A 28 year old Buford woman is now facing charges following a double fatal car accident Friday morning on Interstate 85 in Suwanee.
The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. on 85 Southbound between Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road and Old
Peachtree Road.
Leah Knox apparently lost control of her 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse and made impact with a guardrail on the right side of the road. As her vehicle reentered the roadway, it was struck by the first tractor-trailer, driven by Robert Kent, 63, of Stockbridge, Gwinnett Police said in the update released Friday afternoon.
The current movements involving the second tractor trailer are still under investigation, but officials think it made impact with the Mitsubishi and Kent's tractor-trailer after the initial impact.
The driver of the second tractor-trailer is Raymond Samuel, 50, of Decatur.
Both Kent and Samuel are deceased. Knox suffered some non-life threatening injuries and was arrested when she was released from the hospital.
She faces homicide by vehicle, failure to maintain lane and too fast for conditions. Alcohol is not considered a contributing factor, however police said they are considering speed and weather conditions.
ORIGINAL STORY 8:36 A.M.: Two people were killed Friday morning in a four-vehicle crash on I-85 southbound in the northern part of Gwinnett County.
According to information released via Twitter by the Gwinnett County Police Department, two tractor-trailers and two passenger vehicles collided near Old Peachtree Road. The accident was first reported just before 2 a.m.
Traffic on I-85 southbound was closed to traffic for a large part of Friday morning's rush hour, re-opening completely around 8 a.m.
Police have not released any information about how the accident happened, nor have they said anything about the identities of the victims.
