Boys basketball: Dawson beats Bluff; Banks, Lakeview win; WHall, Johnson, Chestatee, LCA lose

FLOWERY BRANCH — Campbell Reed continued his hot shooting streak on Tuesday in No. 3 Dawson County's 67-55 win over Cherokee Bluff. 

Reed poured in 24 points, his third 20-plus point performance in four games to lead the Tigers (22-2, 11-0 Region 7-3A) to its 12th straight win.

Eli Burruss added 12 points, and Jasper Gibson had 9.

The Bears' loss and North Hall's win over Lumpkin on Tuesday sets up a showdown for the No. 3 seed on Friday at North Hall. 

As for the Tigers, they wrapped up the regular season region title and will be the No. 1 seed in next week's region tournament. 

Dawson County led from 40-31 at the half and 57-45 after three quarters. 

Griffin Neville and Jason Evrett scored 15 points each to lead the Bears (15-9, 7-4 Region 7-3A). Jacob Carlson had 10 points.  with Bluff on Friday for region tournament seeding. 

Dawson County will close out the regular season at East Hall on Friday. Game time is 8:30 p.m.


BANKS COUNTY 49,
UNION COUNTY 39

A big first quarter set the tone for the Leopards in the win over Union County in Blairsville on Tuesday.

Banks outscored the Panthers 18-8 in the opening period and led 29-22 at the half. 

The Leopards won the second half, 20-17.

Dakota Orr led Banks with 12 points, while Carl Cleveland turned in another double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Clay Gosnell and Garrett Pressley added 9 points each. 

Banks (20-4, 11-2 Region 8-2A) can clinch the regular-season region title with a win over Social Circle at home on Friday. Game time is 8:30 p.m.


MARIST 57,
WEST HALL 51

Sawyer Passmore scored 15 points in the Spartans loss to Marist in Oakwood on Tuesday. 

Quincy Holcomb and Colton Smith scored 10 points each, and Canaan Koger had 9. 

The Spartans trailed 25-19 at the half and 41-30 after the third. West Hall outpaced the Eagles 21-16 in the final period. 


LAKEVIEW 59,
ATHEN ACADEMY 50

Holden Cooper led the Lions with 14 points including back-to-back 3-point plays in the final minute of the game to seal the Region 8-A win. 

Declan Weidner scored 15 points, and Conley Millwood added 13. 

The Lions (9-15, 4-5 Region 8-A) will play Hebron Christian at home on Friday. Game time is 7:30 p.m.


CEDAR SHOALS 69,
JOHNSON 33

Buddha Johnson scored 11 points in the Knights' loss to No. 6 Cedar Shoals in Athens on Tuesday. 

The Jaguars jumped out to a 17-4 lead after the first quarter and 41-20 at the half. Cedar Shoals held Johnson to just 13 second-half points while scoring 38. 

Johnson will play Loganville at home on Friday. Tip is 8:30 p.m.


BLESSED TRINITY 55,
CHESTATEE 46

The War Eagles almost made the climb out of the first-half hole in the loss to Blessed Trinity at home on Tuesday. 

Chestatee scored 10 points in the first half, while BT rushed out to a 27-10 halftime advantage.

In the third quarter, the War Eagles rallied to outpace the Titans 22-7 to reach within two points, 34-32. But Blessed Trinity won the fourth quarter 21-14. 

Kyle Bowmar scored 14 points, Ethan Popham had 11, and Jonah Bull added 10. The Titans held leading scorer, Brenton Nicholson, to five points 

Chestatee (12-13, 6-6 Region 7-4A will play White County on Monday in the first round of the region tournament at Blessed Trinity. 


KILLIAN HILL 51,
LANIER CHRISTIAN 49

After jumping out to a 31-21 halftime lead, Killian Hill outscored LCA 30-18 in the second half to pull away. 

Trevin Last poured in 18 points and pulled 13 rebounds in his third-straight double-double performance.
