Buford powers past Habersham Central

MT. AIRY — Buford's offense is like Novocaine -- just give it time and it'll do work

Behind the slow churn of Gabe Ervin Jr and Victor Venn, the Wolves (4-1, 2-0 Region 8-6A) rolled up 397 yards of offense en route to a 44-7 rout of Region 8-6A foe Habersham Central (3-3, 1-1 Region 8-6A) at Raider Stadium on Friday.

"We started out really slow. It's kind of the theme of the season," Buford coach Bryant Appling said on the Hardy Chevy Scoreboard Show. "Our defense has been playing great. We're about the biggest that we've ever been to. They played fast and they gave us a couple of things that we haven't seen out of them in the past and we had to adjust. I'm just proud of our coaches and kids being able to adjust on the fly."

Venn led the Wolves' rushing attack with 124 yards on 15 rushes and one touchdown, while Ervin Jr racked up 114 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns.

For a half, it was close. The Wolves led at half time 10-0 but began its kill-shot in the third quarter. Venn began the Wolves' offensive flurry when he scored on a three-yard run in the third.

After that, it was Katy bar the door as Buford reeled off 27 points to run away from the Raiders.

Joshua Pickett scored the Raiders' lone touchdown in the third quarter on a 62-yard run.
