Two men who lived in Gainesville were killed in a fiery crash on I-20 in East Georgia last week.

A report from the Georgia State Patrol said Enner Bonilla Flores, 35, was driving a 15-passenger van that struck the back of a tractor trailer on the interstate in Taliaferro County near the Warren County line around 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15. Flores and a front-seat passenger, Jose Gomez Sabala, 40, were killed in the crash. Two other men in the van were injured, according to the report.

The driver of the tractor trailer told troopers he was stopped in heavy traffic on the interstate and had just started to move forward when he heard a loud bang.

WRDW/WAGT television reported that the engine compartment of the van caught fire in the crash, and the driver of the tractor trailer was able to extinguish the fire.

Both men were originally from Honduras, but had been working for a timber company in Georgia, according to information released by Ward's Funeral Home, which is handling local funeral arrangements.
