GAINESVILLE — Lakeview Academy is one step closer to making its first-ever state playoff appearance.

Quarterback Jesse Whiting scored one rushing touchdown and tossed another to lead the Lions (3-3, 1-1 Region 6-A Private) to a 14-6 win over King's Ridge at Lion Stadium on Friday. The win has them a game behind Fellowship Christian in the Region 6-A Private standings.

Whiting was 9 of 16 passing for 83 yards and a touchdown and rushed for another 81 yards and a score.

After a scoreless first quarter, Whiting hit Landon Hanes on a 5-yard pass with 1:15 to go in the first half. Sam Perrott's extra point gave the Lions a 7-0 lead heading into the locker room.

King's Ridge (2-2, 0-1 Region 6-A Private) answered the score with 4:46 left in the third quarter on a 1-yard run by Clay Harrell. Perrott, however, blocked the extra point try leaving the Lions on top, 7-6.

In the final frame, Whiting scampered 13 yards for the Lions' second score with 2:45 left in the game. The touchdown run capped a 52-yard, 7-play drive.
