The Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club is changing the format of their 23rd annual Polar Bear Swim for 2021.
Instead of the usual plunge at the club where participants jump off of the dock into the chilly water, they will “run away from 2020” in groups into the water from the beach area of the Lake Lanier Olympic Park.
This new activity is one of several that will be a part of the Winter Beach Bash, according to a press release from the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club. The event will include food trucks as well as a marshmallow snowman building contest.
Event organizers will also give out awards in categories such as youngest, oldest, largest family group and relay team awards.
The Winter Beach Bash will still take place on New Year’s Day 2021.
No reason was given for the change in the press release.
