BUFORD — Cambridge is the latest victim on Buford's road to the Class 6A state title game.
The Wolves (10-1) rolled past the Bears 42-7 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Class 6A playoffs on Friday at Tom Riden Stadium.
Buford is averaging 45 points a game in the playoffs while giving up just 3.5 ppg and has reeled off nine straight wins since losing the North Cobb in the season opener.
On Friday, they executed on the ground and through the air, and the defense, well, it was very stingy as usual.
Quarterback Dylan Wittke was the first to get the Wolves offense rolling with a 9-yard run with 7:05 to go in the first quarter. Then the slow build to a blowout began. Gabe Ervin Jr scored on a 35-yard run, and Ashton Daniels hit Tommy Beuglas on a 9-yard strike to take a 21-0 lead with 10:18 left in the first half.
Later in the second quarter, Ervin added his second touchdown on a 68-yard blast with 5:42 to go in the second quarter.
In the second half, Victor Venn added two scores, a one-yard dive with 2 minutes to go in the third and a 59-yard run with 7:05 to go. Cambridge got on the board with 36 seconds to go.
Buford will play host to Langston-Hughes on Friday. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
