FLOWERY BRANCH — Cherokee Bluff had a shot to make history again on Friday.

But a failed field goal attempt and an interception late in the game ended the Bears' historic run in a 23-21 second-round playoff loss to Carver Atlanta (6-4) on Friday at Yonah Field.

The Bears (11-1) lined up to kick the go-ahead 37-yard field goal with 2 minutes to go but botched snaped stalled the drive and after the Bears' defense held Carver, they had another shot to put together a quick drive with 30 seconds left. That drive ended with a Sebastian Irons interception.

Bluff lost a fumble, gave up a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, and still had a chance to win. They rallied from at 23-6 deficit while outscoring Carver 21-0 in the final two quarters, including nine of those points coming off a Jayquan Smith 12-yard scoring run and a safety in the fourth quarter.

Jayquan Smith led the Bears with 99 yards on 23 carries and a couple of touchdowns.
