After the first two days of the Georgia High School Association basketball state tournament, eight area teams remain standing.
On the girls' side, in Class 2A, Union County advanced on Thursday. In Class 4A, White County captured its first playoff win since 1984 on Friday. And in Class 3A, Jefferson, North Hall and Banks all picked up first-round wins.
On the boys' side, Cherokee Bluff, in Class 3A, beat Westminster to grab its first-ever playoff win. Also in Class 3A, Jefferson steamrolled Adairsville, and in Class 2A, Banks County marched into the second round with a win over Washington.
The first round will continue on Saturday with the Buford boys and girls vying for a spot in the second round of the Class 5A tournament. The Dawson County boys will look to advance in Class 3A against Cedar Grove in Dawsonville. North Hall travels to No. 1 Pace Academy in Class 3A, while Union County travels to Douglass-Atlanta in Class 2A.
