Gainesville: Scholarship offered poultry, ag majors

By AccessWDUN Staff

A scholarship is being offered for poultry and agriculture majors as part of Gainesville's Spring Chicken Festival this year.

Applications are being accepted through March 16.

The Gainesville Spring Chicken Festival Scholarship Fund supports college students pursuing a degree in poultry science or a related agricultural degree. Those who apply have the opportunity to receive up to $1,500.

Funding for the scholarship comes from sponsors of the annual Spring Chicken Festival, Georgia’s official chicken cook-off held in April, which will be held this year at Lake Lanier Olympic Park. Applicants should be graduating high school seniors or current college students pursuing a career in the poultry industry, majoring in Agricultural Business, Poultry Science, Food Science, Animal Science, Food Marketing, Agricultural Economics, etc. They must be a resident of Georgia with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Applicants will also need to respond to the following essay question:

“What are your career goals and reason for pursuing the poultry field?"

How to apply:

*The application deadline for all scholarships is 5 p.m. Monday, March 16.

*Applicants interested should visit North Georgia Community Foundation’s website for all scholarship opportunities: ngcf.org/scholarships/

*Once students create an account, they’ll need to fill out the common scholarship application. When they submit this, it will populate the scholarship(s) they’re eligible for. If they select “yes,” that they’re majoring in poultry science or a related field, then the Spring Chicken Festival Scholarship application will pop up.

Questions about the scholarship and application process should be directed to North Georgia Community Foundation Vice President of Marketing & Development Megan Martin by calling 770-533-7395 or sending an email to [email protected].
