After successfully identifying a man in store surveillance footage released Friday, Gwinnett County Police are again hoping that the public can help them locate the suspect.
Cpl. Michele Pihera said within minutes of releasing surveillance photos to the public, community members identified the man as Speedy Gonzalez, 35, of Buford.
"Once we got photos from the Home Depot, we released them to the general public and the media," said Pihera. "Within minutes he was identified as Speedy Gonzalez."
In late January, Pihera said the victim determined some checks were stole out of his Suwanee mailbox, as the recipients never received them. That same day, he found the mailbox open with the flag still up, indicating a mail theft.
"On the next day, January 22, the victim, and subsequently our detective found that an unknown suspect had made purchases of over $3,000 from a Home Depot on Stone Mountain Highway," said Pihera. Following the purchase, the suspect returned the purchased items for cash.
Gonzalez faces one count of forgery, two counts of identity fraud and three counts of theft by deception.
Anyone with information on Gonzalez's whereabouts is encouraged to contact police; anyone who knows Gonzalez is urged to encourage him to turn himself in.
Pihera encourages anyone who is concerned about mail theft in their neighborhood or wants to take extra caution with several checks should either drop them off at a USPS dropbox or hand deliver the mail to your local post office.
