Gainesville's Adam Lindsey shares thoughts on sports shutdown

By Bo Wilson Sports Editor

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gainesville High Athletics Director Adam Lindsey can be found at his computer chatting on a video conference call.

It's become the new-normal routine since school has been on the COVID-19 hiatus. It's also become the best method to talk with coaches and school administrators.

AccessWDUN caught up with Lindsey on Thursday to discuss what's going on at Gainesville High School in the new AccessSports Live series. We, too, employed the video conference call to practice our extreme social distancing.

The No. 1 question: Will high school sports resume and if so, what will the schedule look like? It was a loaded question due to Gov. Brian Kemp's school closure extension until April 24.

Most of the spring sports would be into the second week of the state playoffs by then. It wasn't an easy question to navigate, but Lindsey answered with a few interesting ideas.

Spring football came up as well. If classes do start back in late April, spring football would almost immediately begin for 20 of the area's 24 teams.
