Hall County Schools are on spring break next week, but when online classes resume the week of April 13, there will be one change to the format.
Of course, school buildings have been closed per order of the governor through the end of the school year as the state continues to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic. All classes are being conducted online. Since the order was implemented, classes have been conducted Monday through Friday.
According to a website post from Kevin Bales, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, the school-from-home schedule will maintain structured learning Monday through Thursday, but Fridays will now be more flexible with no new assignments or lessons being introduced.
The school district is calling the days "We Care Fridays."
"We recognize the added stresses of this unprecedented time, and our school district is committed to balancing School-from-Home academic programming with the needs of the families of our educators and students," Bales said in the post. "'We Care Fridays' will allow teachers time to take part in professional learning; monitor student progress and provide feedback; work on lesson plans; and nurture themselves and their own families. This schedule will continue on a weekly basis; we are moving forward with learning."
Bales said all 37 Hall County schools will adhere to the new schedule.
The plan does not change the schedule for the meal delivery program. School buses will continue to deliver meals Monday through Friday, resuming on Monday, April 13.
Earlier in the week, in an interview on WDUN's Morning Show with Bill Maine, School Superintendent Will Schofield praised the staff members who have been making those meal deliveries happen.
"Your local school district has been putting out between 90,000 and 100,000 meals a week to keep children fed," Schofield said. "As you know, we have a number of students that even in normal times have difficulty getting nutritious meals when they're not in school. I'm just so proud of our staff for standing in the gap and coming in every day and getting these meals prepared and delivered."
