A time of loneliness

By Martha Zoller Host, Morning Talk

I am one of the lucky ones. I have a job I love and I can go to every day. My hours have been somewhat reduced, but I’m on Morning Talk every day and during the time I prepare for the show and while I’m doing it, I feel normal. In addition, we’ll be ramping up interviews with candidates soon and that might feel like normal.

But, I was feeling lonely and it’s okay if you are, too.

I’m a social and political person. I like people and I like being around people. I love my husband and it’s great to spend all this time together but I haven’t seen my grandkids in weeks and right now, I cry easily. I am feeling lonely and I miss people in my life.

I can hear my Dad saying to me there are many people in the world who have it worse than I do and he would be right. That doesn’t change how I feel. So if you feel like me, find someone to talk to.

There will be political, financial and physical health consequences in the next weeks to months, but there are also feelings. And many of us are not feeling like ourselves. As I said, I’m one of the lucky ones, but I still feel lonely sometimes.

What I am sure of is this is going to get better. I am sure that we will analyze this crisis and maybe we will be objective but I worry we may never have a rational press again. I worry that we will lose some of our resiliency.

So let’s do our part to put one foot in front of the other and return to normalcy as soon as we can. That means doing our part now and being a little lonely.
