Gainesville High's Chris Williamson will get his shot in the NFL with the New York Giants.

The Giants nabbed the former Red Elephant standout with the 247th pick in the 2020 Draft Saturday night.

New York was on the defensive on Day 3 of the draft, selecting five of the team's six picks in an effort to fix the team's defense.

Williamson starred at Gainesville as an All-State wide receiver and cornerback under then-coach Bruce Miller and spent his first two seasons at Flordia as a defensive back. After the 2016 season, he transferred to Minnesota. Williamson sat out the 2017 season but played in 11 games for the Golden Gophers in 2018, recording 34 tackles, four pass breakups and one interception.

Last season, he played in all 13 games -- started nine -- while recording 57 tackles -- 37 solo with four for a loss and 2.5 sacks and cashing in an interception for a touchdown in a historic season for the Gophers. The Gophers started the season 9-0, the first time since 1904, including an upset win over No. 4-ranked Penn State at home -- the Gophers' first win over a top-5 team in 20 years. They finished 11-2.

The selection also set a school record of five Minnesota players drafted.

During his senior season at Gainesville, Williamson caught 76 passes for 1,402 yards and 20 touchdowns. On defense, he recorded 47 tackles, two for a loss, and one interception. He was selected to the Class 5A All-State team.
