A 19-year-old man was shot in the torso during a fight Monday night on Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville.
Gainesville Police Department Cpl. Jessica Van said in an email statement the shooting happened just after 8:15 p.m. in an area near Haverty's Furniture.
"There was a fight among several parties and the suspect - described as a Hispanic male - fired a gun at least once during the fight," Van said. "The victim was struck in the torso and driven to the hospital in a private vehicle."
A police report identified the victim as Alex Sander Chavez.
Chavez was reported in stable condition when he was transported to the hospital, according to Van.
At this point in the investigation, police have not issued a specific description of the suspect, nor have they discussed a motive in the incident.
