In light of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, elected officials in Gainesville have extended a local state of emergency for government operations until the middle of the month.
The Gainesville City Council voted on an updated resolution at a regularly-scheduled meeting Tuesday, May 5. The resolution calls for the extension of the local state of emergency until 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 19.
Among the provisions of the resolution:
• Postponement of all public hearings and meetings of any board, committee or commission, including the planning & appeals board, which means all zonings, special uses, variances and annexations are delayed;
• Suspension of the termination of water service for nonpayment;
• Waiving of credit card convenience fees for online payments for goods and services;
• Waiving of late fees for city-provided goods and services;
• Ability for restaurants to sell bottled beer and/or bottled wine with carry-out meals;
