The names of eight people arrested by the Hall County Sheriff's Office following protests in Downtown Gainesville over the weekend have been made public. The Gainesville Police Department made two arrests, but those names have not yet been released.
Officials with the sheriff's office released a list of those who had been booked into the Hall County Jail Saturday and Sunday as a result of the demonstrations.
Possibly the most notiable arrest was that of Tyler Dalton Moye, 24, of Gainesville, who is believed responsible for the vandalism of the Old Joe monument located in the center of the downtown square. As of Monday afternoon, Moye remained in jail on $14,350 bond.
According to the sheriff's office, Moye vandalized the statue around 9:40 p.m. Sunday, spray painting the words "KKK" and "I can't breathe" on three sides. He then attempted to flee from deputies on foot as they tried to arrest him. He was apprehended a short time later.
Moye faces charges of interference with government property, second degree criminal damage to property and obstruction - resisting arrest.
The statue has since been cleaned up.
On Saturday night into Sunday morning, seven people were arrested in the area of Jesse Jewell Parkway and Main Street in downtown Gainesville:
- At approximately 1 a.m., a 19 year old man allegedly "acted in a violent and tumultuous manner" when he shouted "He's by himself. Let's get him," and joined a group of protesters running towards a Gainesville Police officer. Tremayne Malik Hudson, of Gainesville, faces a disorderly conduct charge.
- Quinton Ketrell Wells, 23, of Gainesville reportedly fled from deputies around 1:15 a.m. after they gave him multiple commands to stop running. He faces a misdemeanor charge of obsruction - resisting officer or arrest.
- Some objects were thrown during the demonstration, and deputies arrested Patrick Scott Anthony Jackson, 33, of Gainesville was charged with a count of disorderly conduct. A Gainesville Police officer reportedly witnessed Jackson throwing objects and becoming disorderly during a peaceful protest around 1 a.m.
- Quincy Sanders, 20, of Gainesville, was also reportedly being disorderly during a peaceful protest and throwing items into the roadway. He also reportedly ran from officers. He was arrested by deputies around 1 a.m. and charged with disorderly conduct.
- A man who allegedly was standing or sitting in the middle of West Academy Street allegedly ran on foot from a deputy and a Gainesville Police officer when they approached him. He was arrested around 1 a.m. William Justin Cole, 35, of Gainesville faces a misdemeanor charge of obstruction - resisting an officer or arrest.
- A Gainesville man faces a misdemeanor charge of a pedestrian crossing other than a crosswalk around 12:15 a.m. Christopher A. Mahaffey, 25, was reportedly in the roadway and refused to leave.
- Deputies arrested Jade Steven Miller, 19, of Gainesville and charged him with reckless driving - first offense around 1 a.m.
According to the Hall County Sheriff's Office Police to Citizen website, which allows citizens to access reports, inmate lists and some other records, none of those arrested Saturday into Sunday remain in the county jail.
