A Gainesville woman who reportedly shot and killed herself last month on I-985 did not commit suicide, but instead was a victim of homicide, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.
Cpl. Collin Flynn said in a Monday morning press statement the initial investigation unfolded on July 22.
"The Gwinnett County Police Department received a 911 call that a female shot herself in a vehicle on I-985 Southbound in Buford," Flynn said. "The caller, Lawrence Gray, 30-year-old male from Gainesville, told police that his girlfriend Katlyn Head, 30-year-old female from Gainesville, shot herself while they were in their car."
Flynn said homicide detectives were called to the scene and gathered evidence from the vehicle and talked with witnesses.
"Detectives were able to take the information that they gathered to the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner’s Office. An autopsy was completed and the manner of death in this case was ruled a homicide," Flynn said.
On Friday, July 31 investigators obtained arrests warrants for Gray on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated battery and felony murder.
Flynn said investigators believe there still may be witnesses to the crime who were traveling the interstate the day of the shooting.
"They are urging anyone who may have seen this incident on I-985 South or captured it on dash-cam to come forward and contact the police department," Flynn said.
