Dawson Board of Commissioners approve new zoning class

The Dawson County Board of Commissioners met Thursday evening and conversation largely focused on county growth, most specifically around the 400 corridor.

A proposal from the Dawson Planning Committee would add one more zoning classification, Highway Business Intensive, making it easier to target which businesses should not go directly on 400.

A spokesperson from the Planning Commission said that it would assist as requests come in for new businesses, saying there needs to be a plan in place in advance for where certain businesses should go. “That way they don’t affect the rural nature we have in Dawson county. Our whole purpose is to preserve Dawson county. We know growth is coming and we have to have a plan and a place for it.”

To give an example, companies that are not desirable for the 400 include commercial business that bring large trucks.

The creation of the new zoning classification was unanimously approved.
