An attempted murder-suicide in Oakwood earlier this week eventually ended with the shooter's death and his wife's hospitalization.
The incident started on Monday, when Oakwood Police Lt. Todd Templeton says the Hall County E911 Center received a phone call from 47-year-old Cameron Roberson.
"Mr. Roberson informed the 911 operator that he had just shot his wife at their home on Birch Court in Oakwood," Templeton said. "Mr. Roberson and then stated his intention to take his own life."
Officers were dispatched to the home, where they found a 46-year-old female victim in the front yard, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. The name of the victim, who Templeton described as Roberson's wife, has not been released.
"The female was able to talk with officers and reported she had been shot by her husband, Cameron Roberson," Templeton said. "Oakwood Officers helped the female to safety while attempting to seek medical aid for her."
Roberson was located a short time later, suffering from an "apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head." Templeton said Roberson was holding a rifle at the time officers reached his location.
"Paramedics from Hall County Fire Services arrived on scene and rendered aid to both parties before transporting both to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment," he continued. "The female victim was treated at the medical center and has since been released."
Roberson died of his injuries on Wednesday evening.
Members of the Oakwood Police Department and Hall County Sheriff's Office responded to the initial 911 call.
