With this summer's voter approval of a bond referendum and an ESPLOST extension, the Hall County School District is moving forward with construction of a separate building for Cherokee Bluff Middle School on the south end of the county.
A groundbreaking ceremony is set for 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, according to Stan Lewis, Director of Community Relations and Athletics for the district.
"The principal will speak, as well as some of the students, the board chair and [Superintendent Will] Schofield," Lewis said. "Some CBMS chorus students will sing the national anthem. Parrish Construction who will be building the new school will have personnel there, as well."
Middle school students currently share a building with Cherokee Bluff High School on Spout Springs Road. The new school will be built on a 138-acre site next to the shared school property. The new middle school should be able to accommodate up to 1,500 students.
