A Johns Creek man has entered a guilty plea to charges that he assaulted two police officers during the Jan. 6 raid at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
Kevin Douglas Creek, 47, is a former U.S. Marine who works as a roofing contractor. He is one of 15 Georgians facing federal charges in connection with the breach.
A report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution said Creek appeared Wednesday via teleconference before U.S. District Court Judge Dabney L. Friedrich. Creek pleaded guilty to hitting a Metro DC Police officer and kicking a U.S. Capitol Police officer as they tried to stop demonstrators from entering the Capitol building. In exchange for the guilty plea, five other charges against Creek were dropped.
The newspaper report said Creek faces a prison sentence of 24 to 30 months. Had he gone to trial and been found guilty of all charges originally levied against him, his sentence could have been eight years.
Creek's sentencing date is March 10, 2022. He remains free on bond.
