A Demorest man has been identified as the victim of a single-vehicle accident on Old Cleveland Road in Habersham County.
Troopers with the Georgia State Patrol post in Toccoa were called to the scene around 11 a.m. Friday, but investigators believe the accident happened overnight. Habersham County EMS Director Chad Black said a passing truck noticed the vehicle down an embankment near a creek and contacted authorities.
The accident investigation showed the vehicle - a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado - was traveling northbound on Old Cleveland Road when it apparently crossed the centerline and exited the roadway to the left. The truck vaulted as it traveled down the embankment.
The victim, identified as Ivan Huaroco Hurtado, 26, of Demorest was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.
Investigators said they are unsure what caused Hurtado to leave the roadway.
