Banks County deputy awarded for his courage

A Banks County Deputy Sheriff was honored with the Medal of Valor. Deputy Sheriff Clay Geidner received the department's second-highest honor. The official proclamation was announced by the sheriff’s office through social media on Tuesday evening.

The honor is awarded to someone who performs extraordinary acts of bravery while on duty. Geidner is praised for his quick actions in encountering a murder suspect in early August. The suspect was an armed and dangerous man wanted for the murder of a postal worker. Geidner was fired upon, returned fire and stopped the suspect.

According to a statement from the department, Geidner “clearly displayed courage that was distinct from what is normally expected of the public safety profession.”
