By Regan Spinks, AccessWDUN Staff

Teachers within the Hall County School District pursuing higher education can now apply for the C.W. Davis Scholarship through Friday, April 16.

The C.W. Davis Scholarship awards up to two Hall County teachers non-renewable awards of up to $500 each towards the pursuit of an advanced education degree. To be eligible for the scholarship, teachers must have completed between 3 and 7 years of teaching, plan to remain in an education-related field and be accepted into or currently enrolled in an education graduate degree program at Brenau University, Georgia State University, Piedmont College, the University of Georgia or the University of North Georgia, per a release from the Hall County School District. It is also recommended that applicants achieve a TAPS score of 24-30.

The scholarship application is available here. To be considered for the award, applicants must upload a one-page double-spaced essay, recommendation letter from their principal, copy of their most recent TAPS score and a copy of their university acceptance letter or other evidence of acceptance/enrollment in a graduate program at one of the approved universities. Essays should explain why the applicant is a teacher and why they desire to pursue a graduate degree and remain in an education-related field, according to the release.

The C.W. Davis Scholarship was established to honor the educational career of C.W. Davis, who served as Hall County School District Superintendent from 1977 to 1983, founded the Lanierland Basketball Tournament and served as principal of Flowery Branch High School and South Hall High School.

The C.W. Davis Scholarship is facilitated by the North Georgia Community Foundation. Applications will be screened and evaluated by a selection committee made up of Hall County School District administrators and a member of the Davis family.
