Jackson EMC is sending personnel to Alabama to assist in power restoration efforts prompted by this week's severe weather outbreak.
Two contractor crews will work alongside Birmingham-based Alabama Power, which April Sorrow, Jackson EMC's Vice President of Communication, says serves roughly 1.5 million customers across the state.
"Jackson EMC regularly uses contractors for construction, maintenance and vegetation management," she said on Saturday. "The contractors released to assist with restoration efforts in Alabama are overhead line construction crews."
Officials say at least 5 people were killed in Alabama as a line of severe weather moved through the state, with the storm activity stretching from Thursday evening into Friday morning. Extensive damage was reported in the aftermath, and thousands of residents were left without power.
