A Cornelia man has been arrested on charges including attempted arson.

According to a press release from the Habersham County Sheriff's Office, Michael Jurado, 23, was arrested Friday after he poured gasoline inside of a Cornelia residence and threatened to burn it down.

The release stated that deputies responded to a verbal domestic violence call at 3893 Crane Mill Road. The female caller stated that she had moved herself and her two minor children out of the residence because her partner, Jurado, needed but refused to get mental treatment. She said that she and Jurado got into an argument when he asked her to move back into the residence and she refused.

The caller then said that Jurado became more angry and threatened to burn the residence down. At that point, he grabbed a container of gasoline and poured it around the inside of the home.

The complainant said that she left the residence and Jurado followed her in his vehicle. She eventually returned to the residence, where law enforcement and fire services had arrived. Jurado was arrested on scene.

Jurado faces full charges of one count of criminal damage to property in the second degree, one count of criminal attempt to commit arson, and one count of simple assault under the Family Violence Act. He is currently being held in the Habersham County Detention Center.
