Charges are pending against a teenage driver who appears to be at fault in a three-vehicle crash in Lumpkin County on Saturday.
The Georgia State Patrol said the fatal collision was reported Saturday, May 8 at 4:21 p.m. on Long Branch Road north of Sarah Circle.
According to information from the GSP, the 16-year-old female driver of a 2019 Toyota RAV 4 was traveling northbound on Long Branch Road when she crossed the centerline and sideswiped a 2002 Toyota Sienna traveling in the southbound lane. The driver of the RAV 4 traveled back into the northbound lane of the road and then overcorrected, traveling back into the southbound lane, striking a 2018 Honda CRV head-on.
The victim of the crash was identified as Kathryn Bettis, 91, of Kennesaw. Bettis was a passenger in the Honda CRV. The driver of the CRV and another passenger sustained minor injuries.
Two adults and an 8-year-old child in the Sienna sustained minor injuries in the accident. Two other juvenile passengers were not hurt. The occupants of the Sienna were from Dallas, Georgia.
The Georgia State Patrol declined to identify the at-fault driver because of her age. Troopers did not say if she was injured.
