Down to the wire

It is hard to believe that two weeks from today, I will be in Columbus for the first day of the 2021 Miss Georgia Scholarship Competition.

How the time has flown by me! It seems like just yesterday, I found out that I would have the opportunity to compete. Indeed, I must have been having fun.

Over these next couple of weeks, my focus will be on putting the finishing touch on everything, if you will. For example, making sure that each outfit is good to go, my accessories are in order and I have the supplies for my room on the day of check-in.

I am one of those people that I always feel as though I am forgetting something when I get ready to leave for a trip. Checklists are the only way that I keep myself sane. I also like to take backups and backups for those backups for whatever outfit, pair of shoes and accessories that I can.

I suppose my greatest fear is getting to Columbus and realizing that I have left something important behind, or something I remembered to bring is either broken or does not fit. The best way I can avoid this nightmare is planning, although one cannot plan for everything.

Someone asked me the other day how I felt knowing that one of the most important weeks of my life will be here in two weeks. I told them that I felt ready. I have been prepping for this moment since I first started competing in pageants and I am not going to sit passively will it slips by me.

I guess the thing that I am most looking forward to at the competition, other than hanging out with the other candidates, is that feeling when I hit the stage for the first time. I have been told by other candidates that there is no other feeling like it.

In order to curb nervousness, I always remind myself that for at least a minute and a half, I own that stage. Everyone in that theater, from the audience, to the judges, to the production crew, will be watching me. They are there to see me. At least that is what I tell myself.

It may sound shallow, but I have always performed extremely well under pressure. Although I will be the first to tell you that I am not a mathematician, here is my equation: eyeballs + pressure = phenomenal performance.
