The Arts Council Tuesday evening asked the Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board to delay for a second time a rezoning request for a restaurant and event venue planned just across the street from their facility in downtown Gainesville. Board members, however, decided to move forward with a vote and unanimously approved the request for B.Entertainment's Bourbon Brothers Smokehouse and Tavern.
The rezoning request had already been tabled once at the request of the city of Gainesville, which owns the 1.716-acre tract. City planning staff had wanted to meet with officials at The Arts Council to clear the air over the proposed project prior to a planning board vote.
At the meeting Tuesday, though, an attorney for The Arts Council presented a list of 18 conditions the non-profit wanted to see in place prior to approval for the restaurant-bar-concert facility. Developer Bob Mudd objected to another delay.
The proposal for the $12 million event venue, patterned after a similar facility Mudd and his business partners own in Colorado Springs, was first introduced to Gainesville City Council in April.
Gainesville City Council has the final vote on the plan at a meeting on Aug. 3, 2021.
