Two arrested after Hall County police chase

By AccessWDUN Staff

Two people were arrested following a police chase in Hall County Tuesday afternoon.

Gainesville Police Cpl. Jessica Van said an officer responded to the area of 800 Timber Valley Way after someone called 911 about two people found unconscious in a car.

When he arrived, the officer noticed drugs in the vehicle. The driver, Ronald Sammy Loggins, 23, of Forsyth, put the car in reverse and hit the officer with the open door, knocking him off his feet. During his escape, Loggins allegedly tried to run over the officer.

A short pursuit took place in the area of Mundy Mill Road heading towards I-985. Loggins was driving erratically and caused four crashes along the route, which are now being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol.

The officer had to stop pursuing the suspect because two of his tires were flat.

Hall County Sheriff's Office, Oakwood Police and Georgia State Patrol assisted in locating Loggins after the officer lost him. HCSO deputies found the car in a business parking lot and took Loggins and his passenger, Amber Lynn Shaft, 26, of Cleveland, into custody.

Loggins was charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer, fleeing with intent to elude (felony), aggressive driving, canceled registration, reckless driving, DUI, too fast for conditions, improper lane change, crossing the gore, obstruction (felony), possession of heroin, wrong-way driving, no license on person, turn signal violation and kidnapping.

Van said Loggins was charged with kidnapping because Shaft allegedly told him to stop the vehicle.

Shaft was charged with possession of heroin.

“I’m thankful our officer came out of this intense situation with minor injuries and is now recovering," Chief Jay Parrish said in the media release. "This is a horrible example of how drugs poison more than just those under the influence. "
