Because of rising COVID cases in the community, officials at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville have decided to postpone the Sandy Beaver Entrepreneurial Leadership Award dinner scheduled for this Thursday.
"The decision is predicated upon our pledge to our students, their parents, and our faculty and staff to do all we can to protect their health and safety. We are also mindful of the health of the many guests who planned to attend. It was simply the right decision," said Riverside President Col. (R) Staś Preczewski in a prepared statement.
The purpose of the annual awards dinner is to support the Riverside Military Academy Foundation, which provides scholarship support for students and their families.
This year's honoree is Carol Burrell, the President and CEO of Northeast Georgia Health System.
School officials said they hope to reschedule the event for spring.
