The man accused of robbing two banks in North Georgia last week was arrested as he tried to enter a restaurant in Chattanooga, TN Saturday, according to various media outlets.

A Chattanooga Police Department officer spotted a vehicle being driven by Sidney Alan McCollum, 42, of Pickens County, South Carolina around 7:30 p.m. McCollum pulled into a restaurant, and as he exited the vehicle to walk into the restaurant, he was arrested.

Police said McCollum was driving the pick-up truck he allegedly stole in South Carolina, the same vehicle he used in the bank robberies in Toccoa and Gainesville last week.

Gainesville Police Chief Jay Parrish announced the arrest in a social media post on Sunday afternoon.

"We are thankful for our law enforcement partners, the community and the media for helping locate McCollum," Parrish wrote. "I am extremely grateful to the officers and investigators who worked so hard to develop information in this case to ensure McCollum, was brought to justice."

McCollum is accused of robbing the Wells Fargo bank branch on Thompson Bridge Road and Enota Ave. in Gainesville around noon Friday, Aug. 13. He is also accused in the hold-up of Northeast Georgia Bank on Big A Road in Toccoa on Wednesday, Aug. 11.

McCollum remained in jail in Hamilton County, Tennessee on Monday morning. He faces extradition to Stephens County and Hall County in Georgia for the robbery charges. He also faces charges of larceny and domestic violence in Pickens County, South Carolina.
