  1. Dacula family displaced after Saturday house fire

A Dacula family of six was displaced from their home following a fire Saturday night.

Three of the family members were home when their neighbors alerted them of the fire at 8:14 p.m..

When firefighters arrived at the scene in the 100 block of River Pass Court, the porch of the two story home was in flames, and had begun to spread to above the garage and attic.

No injuries were reported, but one adult was treated for smoke inhalation and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

Firefighters were able to determine that the cause was accidental, and that the incident was likely caused by an electrical outlet.  Read More

  1. NGHS removes mask requirement for those fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Northeast Georgia Health System on Friday removed the majority of its mask requirements for employees, patients and visitors who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

NGHS said in a press release that the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid defines "fully vaccinated," as having received two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine or one dose of Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine.

Those who are fully vaccinated will no longer be required to wear masks while at a Northeast Georgia Medical Center campus, in a Northeast Georgia Physicians Group office, in Georgia Heart Institute officers or at most other NGHS locations.

The one exception to this decision relates to NGHS' long-term care facilities, called New Horizons. Masks are still required for all patients, visitors and employees in a New Horizons facility. Employees caring for patients suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19 and anyone who is symptomatic, inside the 10-day isolation window or has had close contact or exposure to someone with COVID-19 will also still be required to wear a mask. 5.Hall County School Board votes to install school bus washing bay

The Hall County Board of Education voted unanimously Monday evening to construct a bus washing bay for use by county school bus drivers.

In Monday evening’s regular meeting session the board voted to allocate $230,000 to install bus cleaning equipment in a standing wash bay at the bus depot at 2915 Atlanta Highway, Gainesville. Previously, bus drivers were required to wash their own buses as needed, which could take up to an hour and a half. The new bus wash system will do the job in one minute.

Many bus wash systems used by other school districts utilize a brush mechanism that makes contact with the bus during cleaning. This often leaves buses needing repairs to antennas, stop signs, and mirrors. The new system, to be installed by the company InterClean, will be touchless.

Every bus in the school system is required by law to be inspected once a month. The current plan is to have the inspecting mechanic drive the bus through the wash bay during the monthly inspection. This will provide a clean bus for both drivers and students.

The new bus washing system is expected to be installed early in 2023. Read More
