By AccessWDUN Staff

BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. — The Union County offense tallied 712 yards of total offense in a 56-49 win over Providence Christian Friday night.

In the first half, it was all Union County as quarterback Cayden Tanner had five touchdowns in the half, three passing and two rushing as the Panthers took a 35-7 lead into the locker room.

Providence capitalized on a blocked punt for a touchdown and a Union County interception that they would later be converted to a touchdown to trim the lead to 35-21 early in the third quarter. Union County got some insurance with a 25-yard touchdown by Griff Young to extend the lead to 42-21, but Providence marched right down the field and scored on the very next possession.

After Tanner rushed in from five yards out to end the third quarter, Providence would strike quickly in the fourth with their own touchdown pass and then capitalize on a mishandled punt to bring the score within a touchdown, 42-35. Union County answered immediately with a 65-yard tiouchdown run to put the Panthers up 14.  Providence would answer with another quick drive to cut the deficit to a score before the Panthers sealed the game with a 45-yard pass on 3rd and 30 late in the game.

Tanner threw for 424 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for 35 yards and a trio of scores.

Union County will play host to East Jackson next week.
