Brenau University’s Sellar's Gallery currently has over 60 print works by Pablo Picasso on display from now through November.
The exhibit includes etchings, lithographs, linouts, and one canceled copper plate created from 1923 and 1972, all a part of A Graphic Journey: Prints by Pablo Picasso – The Tim Collins Collection.
“We were looking for an exhibit that would be unique," Jody Wall, Chief of Staff at Brenau University said. "Something that the Gainesville/ Hall County Community might not have ever seen before.”
Although this is the first exhibit Brenau has displayed since the pandemic, the exhibition is unique for another reason. The Tim Collins Collection is a traveling exhibit, but The Sellar's Gallery is the first stop in the exhibition’s five-year journey to tour museums and universities all over the county.
The prints in the Tim Collins Collection demonstrate Picasso’s working relationship with his printers and gives visitors the opportunity to understand the process behind these works.
Dr. Collins told AccessWDUN that the decision to donate his personal collection came after he moved houses. He also expressed that to him, the pieces are much more than decorative artworks.
"I like what I collect because you can actually see the creative development ... the process right before your eyes," Dr. Collins said.
The Exhibition is available for viewing at Brenau on select Fridays from 2-4 p.m. The remaining dates for the exhibit are Nov. 11 and 18. The exhibit is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. You may get tickets here. Please note that tickets are only valid for the specific date reserved.
No photography is allowed. Food and beverages are also prohibited in the gallery.
