GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Despite leading for a majority of the first half, Lakeview couldn't stop the rushing attack of George Walton, falling 56-36 Friday night.
The Lions gave up 369 yards on the ground which accounted for all of GWA's offense on the night.
Lakeview struck first as Clyde Jones punched it in from 13 yards out midway through the first quarter to give the Lions the early lead, but GWA answered on the ensuing drive to tie the game up after the first quarter. Liam Weidner hit a 22-yard field goal shortly before Landon Hanes ran in from the 2-yard line to take a 17-7 lead.
GWA responded in a big way, rattling off touchdown runs of 36, 14 and 23 yards before halftime. They also returned the second half kickoff to the endzone to take a 35-17 lead. Hanes got the Lions back on the board with a 6-yard touchdown run, but GWA reeled off two more touchdown runs of 18 and 45 yards to push the lead out to 49-24.
Lakeview got scores from Clay Smith and a scoop and score from Jones to finish out the game.
The Lions wrap up the regular season next week at Loganville Christian.
