GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Lakeview Academy athletic director Deuce Roark confirmed girls head coach John Carrick has resigned, effective immediately.

Roark wouldn't go into much detail but did say Carrick announced his retirement Tuesday evening.

Karen Towles has been named interim head coach.

“We appreciate the years of service Coach Carrick has given Lakeview,” said head of school John Simpson. “He has had a long career as a talented, winning coach, and we thank him for his 13 years of coaching at Lakeview.”

AccessWDUN first broke the story Tuesday night.

Carrick, whose career spanned over 40 years coaching college and high school basketball, has more than 800 total wins.

Carrick started his coaching career at Putnam County High School in Eatonton, Ga., leading the Lady War Eagles to two Sweet 16 appearances, one quarterfinal and two semifinals before winning the program's first state championship in 1982.

After his tenure at Putnam County, Carrick returned to his alma mater, Georgia College, as head women's coach. During his 28-year career, he recorded 21 winning seasons, nine 20-win seasons, six NCAA Tournament appearances, two regular season Peach Belt Conference titles, four PBC tournament championships, and more than 400 career victories.

Carrick was entering his 13th season as head coach at Lakeview Academy.
