The University of North Georgia's Public Safety Department has added a new panic button feature to its LiveSafe app that will give students and faculty more control over their safety on all UNG campuses.
According to an article on their website, this feature gives users more emergency options, such as reporting suspicious activity, a Safe Walk Button, a SNAP button, and a resources button containing useful information.
The University says the app can be downloaded on both the Apple App Store and Android Google Play.
"The importance of this new feature is that at any point if anyone connected to UNG through the LiveSafe app feels unsafe or needs the police they can double tap the panic button,” Nicholas Parker, UNG public safety systems specialist, said. "UNG law enforcement professionals, both dispatchers and police officers, stand ready to assist our community and can easily be contacted through the LiveSafe app."
Since 2018, the app has been used on UNG campuses after the university switched from its former public safety app Rave. The app gives users easy access to campus safety resources and reports emergencies. However, it also can serve the function of submitting work orders for light changes in parts of campuses that are not well-lit.
The new panic feature is a part of a growing initiative at UNG to promote campus safety. The university highlights that it has also created a safety resource website, which gives students and faculty easy access to all tools UNG has available.
