8 people were displaced by a Banks County house fire early Tuesday afternoon.
Banks County Fire and Emergency Services were called to a single-family residence on Wynn Lake Circle in Alto, where crews found heavy fire and smoke coming from inside the home.
"The Residence was checked for any occupants and a Defensive attach was made on the Fire," said Fire Chief Steve Nichols. "The home is listed as a total loss and all of the outbuildings around the residence were protected from damage."
The initial 911 call came in at 1:20 p.m., and Nichols said the incident was considered terminated at 5 p.m.
"The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Banks County Fire Department but appears to be accidental in nature, and a wood heater in the residence couldn’t be ruled out," Nichols said.
No injuries were reported, and the American Red Cross was called in to provide assistance to the residence who were displaced.
