A shooting incident in Forsyth County over the weekend resulted in one juvenile male being hospitalized, and another in custody facing multiple charges.
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office says their investigation began on Saturday when they were called to a residence inside The Villages at Castleberry Subdivision in response to a 911 call that said a person had been shot.
"Deputies learned that two 16-year old males were at the home alone and had acquired a handgun belonging to the parents of one of the juveniles," said Forsyth County Public Information Officer Stacie Miller. "Sheriff’s Deputies, Forsyth County Fire and EMS arrived on scene and began life-saving first aid of the juvenile who was injured."
Miller said a preliminary investigation revealed that the pair had been "playing" with the handgun, loading and unloading the weapon several times before the shooting occurred.
The suspect apparently pointed the handgun at the victim and discharged a single round, striking the victim in the abdomen.
"Detectives with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit arrived on scene shortly thereafter to begin an initial investigation," Miller said. "Detectives believe that alcohol and drugs were a factor in the shooting."
The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was said to be in stable condition.
The suspect is currently being held in the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice, and faces charges of Aggravated Battery and Minor in Possession of a Firearm.
Although identities are being withheld due to the ages of the pair, Miller said both juveniles attend schools within Forsyth County.
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit is continuing the investigation.
