DANIELSVILLE — Both the Flowery Branch tennis teams advanced to the Class 4A state playoffs with win on Monday in the first round of the Region 8-4A Tournament.
The Lady Falcons beat Chestatee 3-0 behind a sweep in the doubles. Ally Shedd and Haley Bursinger won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 and Richney Nguyen and Violet Schultz won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2.
Sandra Hernandez won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles for the other win.
The Lady Falcons will take on Madison County in the semifinals on Tuesday morning.
For the boys, Branch took a 4-0 victory over East Hall. They swept the singles with Josh Warren and Brayden Jackson taking straight-set wins at Nos. 2 and 3. Santino Sengson won a tough three-setter over Alex Diaz 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
Logan Magnuson and Grant Anglin won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 doubles.
The Branch bots next will take on No. 1 seed North Oconee in the semifinals on Tuesday.
